What you post on social media can definitely come back and bite you in the butt, especially if you're a celebrity. Nicki Minaj probably didn't think too hard about it when she posted a video of a woman acting erratically in public, but perhaps she should have, because she's found herself on the receiving end of some serious backlash.
In the video the rapper posted to her Instagram account yesterday, Nicki can be heard trying to persuade an irritated woman to come speak with her, saying, "Miss? Can we talk?" in between bouts of giggling. The unidentified woman seems visibly upset, and TMZ reports that many people have come forward to report that the woman in the video is mentally ill and that she's well-known in South Beach.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness has called Nicki out for posting the video, saying that it's dehumanizing and an invasion of privacy.
"Nobody would make fun of a cancer patient, and mental illness is an illness like any other," a rep for NAMI told TMZ.
The organization is disappointed in Minaj for setting a bad example for her 69 million Instagram followers. While it's true that Minaj probably didn't know the woman's condition before she posted the video, it really doesn't look good. You can check out the video below, if you feel so inclined.
