There are not a lot of A-listers scheduled to make an appearance at Donald Trump’s inauguration. In fact, the highest profile person openly supporting Trump right now is Caitlyn Jenner. Jenner is a staunch Republican and is showing up at their event of the season. This is awkward because Jenner is a very famous transgender woman and Mike Pence, Trump’s VP, is a very famous bigot who has supported anti-LGBTQ legislation in his home state of Indiana, and will likely bring those policies with him into the White House.
You can’t tell anyone who to support (unfortunately), so if Jenner wants to follow a group of people who don’t respect her or who she is that’s entirely her decision. Her crazy, terrible example of a decision. But how will she be received?
Page Six reports that there are actually members of the Trump camp urging him to make a very public statement with Jenner and lead her out for a dance on Friday night. One source told them, “It’s a brilliant idea,” adding, “The image of Trump dancing with Caitlyn would send a strong message that he supports gay rights and trans rights. A picture is worth a thousand tweets.”
Yes, it would be quite the photo opp. You do have to wonder if Trump’s traditional fan base would like to see their leader dancing with someone they have an ugly relationship with. Not just because so many of them are opposed to the rights of transgender people in America, but because so many just hate the Kardashians and Jenners no matter what their gender is.
Jenner’s publicist commented, but refused to confirm an invitation had been issued, saying, “Can’t deal in hypotheticals. We’ll just have to wait and see.”
We’re all just waiting and seeing what’s going to happen—at the inauguration and over the next four years.
