There are always unknown or hushed secret nuggets in the world of entertainment-- but sooner or later, they come to light. This new bit of news is about Pusha T, and a McDonald's jingle that plagued us all for a good decade or so.
According to Vibe, marketing genius and ad exec Steve Stoute revealed the fun fact on Hot 97. In an early morning interview, they ran down a few of Stoute's most iconic deals and parnerships. One that came up was the McDonald's deal-- but the radio personalities (and the rest of the world) had it wrong.
In an attempt to correct the popular belief that Pharrell wrote the famous 2003 jingle, "I'm Lovin' It." Stoute took the moment to educate: “No, you know who did that?” he said. “Pusha T. That’s crazy that Pusha T wrote the song to McDonald’s ‘I’m Lovin It.'”
And King Push later confirmed the news via Twitter with this tweet: "Back when the [ice cream] machine worked," he joked, commenting on an article about the big reveal. "Luckily no one tried to clown me for my McD's jingle. I woulda had to dig up pay stubs, I think u social media guys call that 'metrics,'" he continued in the next tweet without disclosing the (very probably large) amount he was paid.
If you recall, the short song/jingle featured Justin Timberlake, and was used globally to represent the fast food chain. Stoute also revealed it was the first official jingle of the company. Catch it below.
From becoming President of Kanye's G.O.O.D. Music to releasing a critically acclaimed sohpmore album in the past year, I'd say Pusha's been a silent winner for quite some time. Let's hope that the re-emergence doesn't ignite McDonald's to reclaim that jingle, though. I never loved it.
