Controversial auteur Quentin Tarantino has trouble staying out of trouble. His latest scandal involves a since-deleted casting call looking for "whores" for an upcoming project. Here's how the casting call read, via The Cut:
“Casting Whores for Quentin Tarantino project ... Caucasian, non-union females, ages 18–35. Western film shoots June 21st-25th in Los Angeles. No highlights, natural eyebrows, natural breasts, natural hair color to be true to the period. Dress sizes 2–8. Please send photo, including sizes.”
Responding to the outcry about the advertisement, the agency who posted the call claimed that "the word whores was pulled directly from the script, and that the film is written and directed by a woman."
On the one hand, it's disgusting that such offensive language would be used in the casting call itself, especially at a time when the discussion of women's roles in Hollywood is front and center. On the other hand, everyone loves whores! Nothing wrong with a whore!
I'm way more offended that Tarantino is working on yet another Western film when all we really want him to do is get going on Kill Bill Part 3.
Speaking of which, here's an oddly convincing fanmade trailer for the imagined third part of The Bride's saga:
