Rapper Shawty Lo has died. According to reports, the D4L rapper was killed early Wednesday morning in a car accident in Atlanta. While the accident was originally reported as a hit-and-run, it was later revealed that Shawty Lo lost control of his vehicle, went over the guardrails, and crashed into a deep embankment, where the car then caught fire.
Shawty Lo was ejected from the vehicle and died on the scene, Fox 5 reports. Two female passengers were able to escape from the vehicle and were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The sad news was first announced on Twitter by rapper/radio host Headkrack, and was later confirmed by his brother via a post on the late rapper's Twitter account.
Shawty Lo's manager, Johnnie Cabbell, also confirmed the news in this heartwrenching post:
Shawty Lo's music spread nationwide as an entity of the hip-hop group D4L, and with solo hits such as "Dey Know" and "Dunn Dunn." Shawty Lo was 40 years old at the time of his death, and leaves behind 11 children.
