The Atlanta rapper will join a star-studded cast.

There are many, many people I'd picture killing it in a Roots remake. Denzel Washington. Don Cheadle. Djimon Hounsou.

But T.I.? He's not exactly the first person I'd think of to star in a dramatic mini-series at all, let alone an adaptation of Alex Haley's classic novel on African-American ancestry in the United States...but we'd all better get used to it.

The Atlanta rapper/actor is the latest celeb to join a star-studded cast of the A&E remake of Roots. He'll be joining thespians like Anika Noni Rose, Laurence Fishburne, and Forest Whitaker in bringing the legendary mini-series to a new audience. According to BET.com, Clifford Joseph Harris, Jr. will be portraying a slave named Cyrus who fights for freedom as a member of the Union Army.

The series is executive-produced by LeVar Burton (who starred as Kunta Kinte in the original) and will air next year on the History, A&E, and Lifetime channels simultaneously.
Do you think he can hack it? The latest reference we have is his latest performance in K Camp's "Til I Die" video. At least he has some gravitas.
