In a new interview with Latina.com, Rihanna opened up about her new cosmetics line, Fenty Beauty, as well as her inspiration to make products that would work for all women of color, including the Latin community.
"I got my love for my Latino and Latinas!" Rihanna told the publication.
"The foundation is such an extremely perfect formula in my eyes and I wanted range," she continued. "With every product I was like, 'There needs to be something for a dark-skinned girl, there needs to be something for a pale-skinned girl and everything in between.' You want people to appreciate the product and not go, 'Oh, that's cute, but it only looks good on her.'"
When it comes to being diverse, Fenty Beauty is setting a new standard in the beauty industry. Rihanna's foundation line has been a hit with many dark-skinned women especially; six of the darker shades have already sold out online, and fans on social media have been posting photos of nearly empty Fenty Beauty display cases in stores, applauding Rihanna for speaking to a market that's so often ignored by mainstream beauty brands.
Rihanna explained that, in order to make sure her products would work for a diverse audience, she made a point of having women of color helping her behind the scenes.
"One of my product managers Jen is Latin, and she's very proud of what we created," she said. "We also have two amazing Global Makeup Artists, Priscilla Ono and Hector Espinal. I feel really indebted to Latin culture!"
