Solange has left Twitter, and for a darn good reason, too.
Cosmopolitan reports that the singer announced her impending split from the platform yesterday, writing, "Deleting my Twitter soon, but before I dip, when we gonna pull up? & what we got to do to get my new hero Takiyah Thompson free?"
Takiyah Thompson, a 22-year-old activist, made headlines after taking part in toppling a Confederate statue in Durham, North Carolina this week; she was later arrested and charged with multiple felonies.
"We are tired of waiting on politicians who could have voted to remove the white supremacist statues years ago, but they failed to act. So we acted," Thompson explained.
Solange talked about her decision to leave Twitter in more detail via Instagram — it's all about self-preservation, she explained.
"Been trying to study myself, been trying to practice self-preservation during this time," she wrote, "and not give racist ugly ass fuc bois who reek of citronella my energy so that I can preserve my spirit to perform this album."
"F*ck white supremacists," she continued. "F*ck nazis. F*ck your stale ass bland ass monuments. F*ck asking folks to be graceful."
Solange went on to talk about the effect all of this has had on her 12-year-old son Daniel Julez, writing, "My son's first day of school has been in the midst of seeing these bullsh*t images that still tell him this system was built to be against him. How mofos supposed to have a fresh start with education, seeing this shit?"
"Thinking about demanding he not be required to take 'American History' because its deep dark rooted ugliness continues to live right now, right before our eyes," she continued.
