Not a good day to be Soulja Boy. Scammers just hit the "Kiss Me Thru The Phone" rapper to the tune of $175,000.
According to Hot New Hip Hop, the scammers purchased some of the rapper's "Souljaboards"—hoverboards that sell for $1,500 a pop on his online store—using fraudulent credit cards.
In an email to Stripe, the company that processes his payments, Soulja pleaded for help, writing: "I need help all the payments are fraud And it sent my account to negative because they all say they weren't authorized. please help in any way you can thanks. I don't want to have to pay all this money because of frauds if there any way to reverse these payments and get my account to Good standing."
Buzzfeed News reported that more than 75% of all orders associated with [Soulja's] account were disputed after the fact. Stripe later told Soulja Boy, "The vast majority of your negative balance is due to fraud."
Yikes. That's gotta sting. According to Buzzfeed News, though, what Soulja's dealing with isn't a rare occurrence at all: the world of online hoverboard sales is teeming with fraud.
Better luck next time, SB.
