Body shaming just hit a new low. After the #KylieJennerLipChallenge, #SquatChallenge and countless waist-training debacles, the latest trend in making women feel bad about themselves comes courtesy of the iPhone 6.
According to Cosmo, a bizarre trend has hit the Internet in China with women comparing the size of their legs to their phones. The strange viral challenge has women covering their knees with their phones to prove that their legs are "skinny." A post on Weibo, a Chinese social media app, claims that the iPhone has "become a new generation of standard legs." Mic points out that the post has over 84 million views and 72,000 comments!
What does the size of your knees have anything to do with fitness? According to Benjamin Bedford, MD: zilch! He tells Teen Vogue that the size of your knees has nothing to do with body weight. "The knees are bone and cartilage, and those are a fixed size, so there's not much to do to change the knee's size," he said. "Just above the knee cap is the quadriceps muscle, so to get your knees small enough, you'd actually need reduced muscle mass."
Ditch this ridiculous body-shaming trend. Love your knees, ladies!
