That Unreleased Aaliyah Track Is Here ... And It's Fire

Fresh off Timbaland's new mixtape.

By Eric Shorey

Legendary producer and rap deity Timbaland had been hinting at finally releasing a previously-unheard Aaliyah track for a while. Now, it seems like he's finally making good on his promises: fresh off his new mixtape, titled King Stays King, is a track from the dearly departed goddess.

"Shakin" is exactly what you'd expect from a Timbaland and Aaliyah colab: straight up 90's girl rap with a bumpin' techno-inspired beat. Tim and Babygirl had collaborated plenty while she was still alive. On their work together, Timbaland told Revolt TV in 2013: “People always say, ‘I’m going to do a song with Aaliyah.’ It will never work. Chris Brown got a record, it won’t work. Drake can go do a record with Aaliyah, it ain’t gonna work. Aaliyah music only work with its soulmate, which is me.” It's no surprise that the duo's chemistry remains as fresh today as it did 20 years ago.

“Aaliyah.. This is for you baby,” Timbaland wrote on Twitter.

You can listen to the full mixtape, including the Aaliyah track, below.

Billboard suggests that the new release is meant to be a teaser for Timbaland's next full-length album, to be titled Textbook Timbo, scheduled to be released next year.
