Why Kerry Washington Hates the Term "Pre-Baby Body"

She's speaking for moms everywhere with this one.

By Sharon Lynn Pruitt

Kerry Washington is the latest celeb mom to get real about having a baby. During an interview for the September issue of Self Magazine (you can find her looking fierce on the cover), Kerry opened up about life after giving birth to her daughter Isabelle nearly a year and a half ago. In the process ,she provided body image inspo for new moms everywhere.

When her manager commented that the Scandal actress was looking more like her pre-baby self, Kerry used it as a totally teachable moment. Kerry told Self, “She meant it as a total compliment, but we had this great conversation where I was like, ‘You know what? I try really hard not to use that language, because it’s not about going backward in life.’ I’ve been really focused on not being ‘back’ to anything, but being the best version of myself right now.”

And then she knocked it out of the park with one of the most spectacular quotes about post-baby bodies ever: “My body is the site of a miracle now. I don’t want to be pre-miracle.”

Amen, Kerry. It's about time we let go of some of the pressure we place on new moms. Having a baby is stressful enough without having to worry about being bikini-ready before you even leave the hospital.
