In Trump's America, public displays of racism and homophobia are the new normal — as evidenced by the spike in reported hate crimes following the election. Now, a woman who was caught on video going on hateful rants in two different stores in Chicago has been identified, and social media users are letting her have it.
The woman was first caught in a Michael's location making overtly racist statements against employees and boasting about her vote for Donald Trump. A Facebook user who witnessed the scene described the incident as a "45 minute ordeal."
A GoFundMe page to financially benefit the manager who calmly dealt with the situation has raised over $25,000.
Shortly after this, another incident in a nearby Peet's Coffee shop was recorded, this time with the woman making patently homophobic statements to the employees:
It's unclear how, but social media super sleuths have identified (via her since-deleted LinkedIn page) the verbal assailant as Jennifer Boyle, a former employee of Sinai Health System. Comments on the Chicagoist's articles confirm her instability: "When I worked at Sinai, I was her conduit for all of her mental anguish. On my last day, I warned everyone that was at my going away outing to be careful around her and that she was mentally unstable. After I left, she unleashed on everyone within the department. Even though 'I told you so's feel good for a moment, this is unprecedented."
Now, users on social media have countered her vitriol with insults of their own, turning her name into a hashtag:
Karma's a bitch and so are you, lady.
