Hips don’t lie except when they’re Photoshopped. Zendaya was shocked to see herself in a magazine photo and her hips were all but gone. In the image, the healthy actress’ body has been manipulated and shrunken down to maybe half her size. “Had a new shoot come out today and was shocked when I found my 19 year old hips and torso quite manipulated. These are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have,” she shared on Instagram.
Zendaya posted a photo of the image before retouching—which she looks amazing in, by the way—and continued, "Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self love. So I took it upon myself to release the real pic (right side) and I love." She says that the publication, Modeliste Magazine, has pulled down the fake images and are fixing this retouching fail.
The Editor-in-Chief shared that the images were edited by an “independent editing company” and after speaking with Zendaya and her parents, they made the decision to pull the issue: “We concluded that the images had been retouched to an extent that was not acceptable and not true to the values and ideals we represent and promote in our publication. I, therefore, made the executive decision to immediately pull the issue in order to have… the images restored to their original, natural state which will reflect the true beauty and radiance of Zendaya."
