Britney Spears' Conservator Denies Telling Her Dad That She Is 'Mentally Sick' And Needs Psychiatric Hold

Britney Spears’ conservator Jodi Montgomery has denied telling the star’s dad that she is “mentally sick” and needs a psychiatric hold. Instead, she is accusing Jamie Spears of trying to gain a "tactical advantage" in the ongoing battle over Britney's conservatorship.

Last week, Britney's newly hired attorney Mathew Rosengart filed a petition seeking to remove her father Jamie Spears as conservator of the estate. The filing alleged that Jamie was “guilty of misfeasance or malfeasance,” CNN reports. In response, Jamie filed his own court document to claim there are “no grounds whatsoever” for him to be removed. He also claimed that Jodi Montgomery, the conservator of person for the singer, recently put in a “plea for help” from him in a July 9 phone call.

He alleged that Montgomery called the “Toxic” singer “mentally sick” and suggested that she may need a psychiatric hold.

“Ms. Montgomery said she was very worried about the direction my daughter was heading in and directly asked for my help to address these issues,” Jamie stated in the court filing. “Ms. Montgomery acknowledged that many of my daughter’s statements at the last hearing were not true and attributed her statements to the fact that my daughter is ‘mentally sick.’ After Ms. Montgomery shared her detailed concerns about my daughter’s recent behavior, safety, and overall health, she raised potential options including a 5150 psychiatric hold, which raised my concerns.”

In a June hearing, Britney said she feels her father, who has had much control over her conservatorship over the years, should be in jail for conservator abuse. She told the judge that she has been held in a psychiatric hold against her will, forced to perform against her will, forced to take lithium, and told she cannot get her IUD removed.

In his filing, Jamie claims that Montgomery told him that his daughter was not “timely or properly taking her medications,” and that she has been refusing to see some of her doctors, CNN reports.

Montgomery’s attorney Lauriann Wright said in a statement to Oxygen.com that Jamie misrepresented what she “said to him in relation to a potential 5150 psychiatric hold.”

“At no time did Ms. Montgomery express to Mr. Spears that Ms. Spears would currently qualify for such a hold,” Wright stated. “The concern that Ms. Montgomery did raise to Mr. Spears during their telephone call is that forcing Ms. Spears to take the stand to testify or to have her evaluated would move the needle in the wrong direction for her mental health.”

Wright accused Jamie of trying “to gain some sort of tactical advantage in the pending proceedings to remove him as Conservator.”

She wrote that she’d like for him to step down from the conservatorship, as his daughter has requested.

“It is in Ms. Spears’ best interests that her father step down as her Conservator, so he can go back to just being Ms. Spears’ father, and working on a healthy, supportive father-daughter relationship,” Wright stated.

The conservatorship was instituted by a court in 2008 not long after Spears endured what appeared to be a mental health crisis that played out in the tabloids.
