Florida Man All Smiles After Allegedly Leading Deputies On 15-MPH Chase, Tells Them He’s A ‘Good Guy’
Gordon Ormond appeared happy as he was booked on a DUI charge for the fifth time.
A Florida man was all smiles as he posed for a mugshot which marked his fifth DUI charge and his 12th charge for driving with a revoked or suspended license after he allegedly led local deputies on a low-speed chase.
The chase began Thursday night after Pasco County sheriff's deputies watched a white work van run a red light in Embassy Lakes, according to an arrest report obtained by Oxygen.com.
Gordon Ormond, 56, was allegedly at the wheel and didn’t stop when deputies asked him to.
"The vehicle failed to stop for deputies in marked vehicles with emergency lights and sirens activated,” the arrest report states. After the pursuit was initiated, ”Ormond drove at speeds ranging from 15-35 MPH during the pursuit. He struck a basketball hoop in a driveway at one point in the pursuit.”
Eventually, the sheriff’s department deployed stop sticks, which deflated three of the van's four tires and brought the low-speed pursuit to a halt. Ormond quick to confessed after his arrest, according to bodycam footage of the incident.
“I have no license. I’m driving on a suspended license," he said, WFTS in Tampa Bay reports.
He also offered up a defense.
“I’m a good guy, I’m a very good guy. I just wanted to park in front of my friend’s house," he said in the footage.
Ormond was charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended or revoked license as well as refusing to submit to a breathalyzer test, fleeing to elude and for leaving the scene of an accident. If convicted, this will be his 12th driving with a suspended license charge and his fifth DUI conviction.
It’s not clear if Ormond has a lawyer who can speak on his behalf at this time.
“Thankfully he’s in jail again. Maybe tougher sanctions this time because let’s face it, he’s had more than one chance," Sgt. Dennis Fenstemacher told WFTS about the man’s repeated arrests.
