A naked man who police believe was high on PCP allegedly attacked a baby in a stroller on the Jersey Shore.

Stephon Whitfield faces charges of aggravated assault, child endangerment, and disorderly conduct in the wake of a violent altercation on Monday in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Police responded to a call about a naked and bleeding man knocking on apartment doors at around 9:20 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they say Whitfield was yelling and in visible distress.

Witnesses say that Whitfield had tried to enter a vehicle and rob the driver but was unsuccessful. After that, witnesses said Whitfield approached a mother who had been walking with her 9-month-old in a stroller, grabbing and slamming the child back down.

Video obtained by NBC 10 of Philadelphia shows bystanders attempting to pull the suspect away from the baby. Whitfield can be seeing being kicked and punched by one of the men.

The child incurred non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated at the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, according to the Cherry Hill Courier Post. He suffered bruises, swelling to his mouth and face, and a lost tooth. The mother and the baby remain unnamed in reports.

A criminal complaint says that Whitfield is believed to have been under the influence of PCP at the time.

Whitfield was arrested without incident and was medically evaluated. He remained incarcerated as of Tuesday. The status of his legal representation remains unclear.
