Wife-Killer Drew Peterson Says He's 'Living The Dream' In Federal Prison

Drew Peterson, the 65-year-old convicted wife-killer who also once tried to off a state attorney, compared federal prison to a “dream” in a prison telephone interview with Fox32 in Chicago.

Peterson, a former Bolingbrook, Illinois police officer, told the outlet that he’s “living the dream” behind bars in a maximum security federal penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana.

“It was dirty," he described of the Illinois state prison where he was previously incarcerated. "The mattresses I had, the pillow I had, you wouldn't put your dog on it. It was terrible. Urine and defecation spread on the walls."

By comparison, however, Peterson claimed his new maximum security prison was like a “day care center.” He told Fox32 he bides his time by watching movies, sitcoms, communicating with his six children on the outside, and by working in the prison’s laundry, where he earns a small sum.

Peterson was dealt a 38-year prison term in 2013 for murdering his third wife, Kathleen Savio. He later received an additional 40 years in 2015 for conspiring to hire a hitman to kill the man who prosecuted him: State Attorney James Glasgow.

Peterson had been moved to a federal facility after the murder-for-hire plot surfaced. Prison officials deemed him a “threat” to security in state custody.

Peterson’s fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, disappeared in 2007. She’s never been found — and Peterson has never been charged in connection with her disappearance.

But during the interview with Fox32, Peterson defiantly maintained his innocence.

“I didn't murder Kathy and I didn't murder Stacy,” he also said to Fox.

Rather, Peterson believes his Stacy will one day resurface—and that she simply ran off with another man.

“There's been all kinds of cases of a woman coming back years after, as much as 10 or 12 years,” he said.

Peterson is eligible for parole in 2081.
