Five Years After Delphi Murders, Family Still Hold Out Hope For Break In The Case
The family of Libby German, who was killed along Indiana's Delphi Historic Trail with her friend Abigail Williams in 2017, spoke at CrimeCon 2022 about where the infamous case stands.
Five years after the murders of two Indiana teens, killings known nationally as the Delphi Murders, the victims' loved ones hold out hope that their killer can be brought to justice.
Liberty “Libby” German, 14, and Abigail Williams, 13, were found dead on Valentine’s Day 2017 after going missing one day prior. Their bodies were found about a half-mile off Indiana's Delphi Historic Trails they were exploring during a day off from school.
During a Friday evening panel at CrimeCon 2022 in Las Vegas, Libby's sister Kelsi German, her grandmother Becky Patty, her grandfather Mike Patty, and her aunt Tara German sat with HLN anchor Susan Hendricks and cold case investigator Paul Holes to talk about where the case stands.
Kelsi said that while “it is difficult every day,” she is “continuing to advocate for her and Abby and other people, then I’m doing my part to keep her living.”
Becky stated that often she feels that “today could be the day” that the killer is arrested.
“There is always hope,” Holes said.
And certainly, there have been developments in the case.
Investigators are currently looking to talk to anyone who had any interaction on any social media site with a user who used the handle “anthony_shots.” The catfish account, active in 2016 and 2017, may have made contact with the girls. Becky expressed shock and sadness during the Las Vegas panel that her granddaughter may have been preyed upon online.
Mike says he’d love for any young women who may have been in middle or high school at that time to look back at their social media from those years to see if the account made contact with them.
Holes also emphasized that there is some information about the case that police would do well to clarify. In 2019, police released a sketch of a potential suspect in the case, which was drawn just two days after the girls' death. Holes pointed out that the sketch looks like the suspect could be as young as 19. It’s a stark contrast from a previously released sketch that Holes states looks like someone vastly different in his 30s or 40s.
“That needs to be clarified,” he said.
“Let’s clarify that and make sure that you all have the right information to focus on that case,” he said, talking to the public, whom he said is possibly vital to solving a case like this.
