Nurse Says She Had 'Never Seen' Injuries Similar To Those On Woman Accusing MLB Pitcher Trevor Bauer Of Sexual Assault

A forensic nurse examiner who examined a woman accusing Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer of assault testified Tuesday that in her 40-year career, she had “never seen” the type of injuries that the woman suffered.

“It was frankly alarming,” Kelly Valencia said of the deep bruising she documented on the woman’s vagina, according to ESPN.

Valencia testified as part of a hearing to determine whether the California woman will be granted a permanent restraining order against Bauer.

The woman, who Oxygen.com is not naming, has accused Bauer of violently sexually assaulting her on two separate occasions, choking her to unconsciousness with her own hair and then punching her in the face and vagina.

The woman testified on the stand that she felt like “my soul left my body” and described herself as “a rag doll” after waking up to finding Bauer allegedly punching her all over her body, Insider reports.

According to testimony and a statement to obtain a temporary retraining order against the pitcher obtained by Oxygen.com, the woman said one encounter sent her to the hospital with two black eyes, scratches along her face and a swollen lip.

It was there Valencia performed a Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) exam on the woman on May 17. She testified on Tuesday that the injuries she observed, including bruising on the woman’s face, buttocks and genitals, were consistent with the woman’s account of the incident.

“When she walked in, I noticed visible facial injuries,” Valencia testified, according to Insider, noting the woman had what she described as “racoon eyes” commonly seen in those who have been choked.

Bauer’s legal team has argued that both encounters were consensual and questioned why it took the woman 43 days to file a temporary restraining order against Bauer in June.

The woman said in court that she had waited to file the order because Pasadena Police had told her they planned to arrest Bauer.

“I waited as long as I could,” she said during cross-examination, according to ESPN. “And when I hit the point of realizing they were gonna take a while for this investigation, I had to protect myself in the meantime.”

Bauer is still not facing any criminal charges in connection to the incidents, but Major League Baseball has placed him on administrative leave while they conduct their own investigation.

Shawn Holley, one of the attorneys representing Bauer, questioned the woman on the stand Tuesday for about two and a half hours, after assuring her that he was not “slut-shaming” her with his questions that often focused on text messages she had sent to Bauer and her friends around the time of the alleged assaults.

In one message to a colleague, she wrote that she had her “hooks in” Bauer—who she met through Instagram—and “can get in his head,” according to the testimony.

In another exchange with Bauer that occurred between the two sexual encounters, the woman texted that she wanted to have rough sex, including being choked.

“Gimme all the pain. Rawr,” she wrote.

Holley questioned why she had not mentioned those messages in her initial narrative about the rough sex with Bauer, but the woman said she didn’t believe the messages were relevant.

The woman’s attorney, Lisa Helfend-Meyer, also brought in some of the woman’s text message history, asking her why she had described the second violent encounter as “consensual” during a conversation with her cousin. Although she may have used that terminology, the woman said she doesn’t believe the acts were consensual.

“I lost any chance of giving consent after the first time he choked me out,” she said.

The woman said she had been reluctant to seek medical help for her injuries because she “knew how it was gonna go,” ESPN reports.

“I knew how it worked,” she said. “Publicity, the situation. Immediately it paints me as a slut. And I didn’t want this story anywhere. I didn’t. I was so embarrassed about all of it.”

The defense team also questioned the tearful woman about her alleged relationships with other MLB players including San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. in 2019 and Padres pitcher Mike Clevinger in 2020.

“Trevor is a wackadoo like Clev,” the woman wrote in one text message to a friend, admitting in court that the reference was about Clevinger.

Clevinger’s representative declined to comment to ESPN.

The hearing to determine whether the permanent restraining order will be granted is expected to continue Wednesday.

Earlier this week, reports surfaced that a second woman from Ohio had also once taken a temporary restraining order out against the pitcher after she accused him of choking and punching her during sex without her consent.

Bauer and his representatives have also denied that accusation.
