Man Who Allegedly Committed Child Birthday Massacre Wants To Change Name To 'Eternal Love'
3-year-old Ruya Kadir was allegedly murdered by Timmy Kinnear during a rampage. Her parents are adamantly opposed to him changing his name.
An Idaho man, who is accused of fatally stabbing a 3-year-old at her birthday party and injuring eight others, is now seeking to change his name to “Eternal Love.”
The victim’s parents, Bifituu Kadir and Recep Seran, are opposed to the name change, arguing that it could cause confusion for the jury, court and legal counsel when Timmy Earl Kinner Jr., 31, goes on trial, Fox News reports.
Kinner is accused of attacking a large group attending a birthday party at a Boise apartment complex in June, killing Ruya Kadir and injuring five children and three adults during the mass stabbing.
He’s been charged with first-degree murder and several other felonies connected to the brutal attack.
Kinner filed a request in December to officially change his name to “Eternal Love” and was granted a hearing on the matter scheduled for Tuesday, according to the Idaho Statesman.
On the form requesting the change, he wrote that he wanted to be known as Eternal Love “because this is my God given right & the title I want to be known as & remembered by.”
Kadir and Seran filed a motion on March 12 to oppose the change before Kinner stands on trial, citing the possible confusion caused by the change and arguing that Kinner has not given any “meaningful reason” to change his name.
In the motion, Kadir’s attorney argued that all the previous statements and documents related to the case were written using Kinner’s birth name and said a name change could confuse those testifying as well as the jury, reports the Idaho Statesman.
The family argued that the need for accurate court proceedings “eclipses whatever reason (Kinner) may have to change his name,” the Idaho Press reports.
There is some question as to whether Kinner will be able to attend the scheduled hearing. He is currently being held at a secure mental health facility at a state prison after a judge ruled in February that he was unfit to stand trial.
He is receiving treatment at the facility to restore his competency, according to the local outlet.
Kinner, a homeless man, had been staying at the apartment complex with a friend and had been asked to leave another birthday party at the same complex just the day before the brutal attack.
Kadir has also filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Kinner, the property owners and managers at the apartment complex, and the tenant who had allowed him to stay in her apartment.
