Four Women Who Dated Scammer Derek Alldred Swap Stories Of His Love Con, Video
They might have been seduced by evil, but these women are now friends.
Career con man Derek Alldred, 47, was sentenced to 24 years in prison for aggravated identity theft and mail fraud last year. The subject of the documentary “Seduced by Evil,” Alldred left a wake of financial and emotional devastation among the women whose trust he preyed upon.
Among those women were four in Minnesota: Missi Brandt, Linda Dyas, Kimberly Nelson, and JoAnn Venhuizen.
In this exclusive bonus clip, these four women, featured in “Seduced by Evil,” do what few would expect women who all dated the same guy would do: they bond. They swap stories of Alldred’s intensely charming ways — and of how much he defrauded them.
He pulled out all the tricks. Alldred knew that Venhuizen was a basketball fan, and bought them front row tickets with their own personal waiter at a Timberwolves game. Linda remembered how, on their second date, Alldred stopped to pray and thank God for “the perfect woman.”
In this video, the women realized that except for JoAnn, they all knew him as Richard Derek Peterson. JoAnn knew him as the lawyer Derek “Allarad.”
“He had to have had people in on it with him. I talked to his secretary, his coworker, people verbally, on the phone. People. Not recordings.”
Alldred used many props to support his personas, and went through elaborate, emotional lengths to win women’s trust and thus access to their financial accounts.
“If he had that much work to any career out there, he would have been wildly successful,” Linda said.
Missi, Linda, and Kimberly overlapped in 2016; JoAnn met Alldred on Match.com in August of 2014.
Alldred showed them photos of each other, claiming they were his relatives. He showed Kimberly a photo of Missi and her daughters on a boat he bought with Linda’s money, and said it was his sister and nieces. He showed Missi videos of Linda’s son running around her house, saying he was his nephew. By showing them each other, he might have been creating plausible deniability if he was ever seen with the other.
JoAnn tells the makers of “Seduced by Evil”: “I want him stopped so that women don’t have to go through what we went through.”
And for the women who banded together to seek justice against the scammer who stole from them, they did find one thing in the process: friendship with each other.
