Yet another child has been shot in a road rage incident this year—this time, an 8-year-old girl riding in her mother’s car in Portland on Dec. 20.

The girl survived the shooting with just superficial gunshot wounds to her foot. The other occupants of the car—the mother, her friend Tina Swarez, and two younger children—emerged unscathed.

“The worst thing in life as a mother is to hear a little kid say, ‘Mom, he shot me,” Swarez told a local reporter.

Joshua Constantine, 32, was arrested for the shooting, which allegedly occurred after he drove recklessly to the point where the mother of the victim nearly crashed her car. When she eventually passed him on Interstate 84, Constantine shot at the car, hitting the girl.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges of assault on Dec. 21.
