MMA Fighter War Machine Argues That He Brutally Attacked Girlfriend Consensually

Christy Mack was left with several broken bones, damaged internal organs, and missing teeth.

The trial for notable MMA fighter Jonathan Koppenhaver AKA War Machine has begun and violent details are already emerging. The Las Vegas Review-Journal and News3LV report that Koppenhaver and his ex-girlfriend engaged in shared brutal rape fantasies which consumed their lives, leading to him eventually being arrested on 34 separate charges including kidnapping and attempted murder.

Testimony shows that Koppenhaver beat adult entertainer Christy Mack and left her with several broken bones, damaged internal organs, and missing teeth.

Koppenhaver's lawyers are attempting to prove that the extreme violence was executed with full agreement from Mack, who participated in the acts: "The evidence is going to show that Mr. Koppenhaver was told he had consent to do things," said defense attorney Jay Liederman. “Public discussions about sex and rape were commonplace [in the relationship] ... Ultimately, the two of them were swallowed up by the personas they had created for themselves."

Phone calls to 911 tell a different story. The jury was played a recording of an incident in which Koppenhaver burst into a room to find Mack and an ex, Corey Thomas, in bed together.

“Jon, stop,” she could be heard screaming on the recording played in court. “You’re going to kill him.”

Koppenhaver fought with Thomas until he could escape, at which point Koppenhaver attacked Mack. "This is it. I’ve got to kill you now," he said as he beat her. She ran into the street bloody and naked to escape him. Koppenhaver fled and was on the run for months after the incident.

Before this, family and friends of Mack had noted a change in her behavior and dress likely due to the abuse she suffered from her lover.

The trial is ongoing. If Koppenhaver is found guilty of the charges he could face life in prison.
