Mz. H2O on Episode 2: Hands Tied, Camera Ready
I thought this week’s Check Up from the Neck Up challenge was simple. I was thinking “a ponytail, that's too easy.” Once I opened my box and saw the contents I was completely thrown for a loop. Neon green and orange hair…not a cute combination and BALLOONS! “What in the world am I going to do with balloons?”
The bright hair colors, balloons and sequins reminded me of something festive. So I decided to do a party theme with a disco ball and I incorporated the balloons around the ball. I wanted my model to look like she had been dancing all night. I created a braided ponytail with a controlled messiness because this party was poppin’…and so were my balloons! (pun intended)
I wasn’t surprised when I didn’t win. I have never worked with balloons before in a fantasy hair piece. I wasn’t really happy with my end result and it definitely didn’t help that the balloons were not cooperating with me.
I was excited to battle GQ in the Glam Slam. GQ is very creative and I think he does great hairpieces for a barber. This is Glam Slam number two so I have to show the judges what I have to offer.
This week Glam Slam challenge was Black and White? BORING! This was a challenge for me because of the color choices. I was uninspired by the black and white color scheme. I usually like using lots of vibrant colors in my pieces so I had to find a way to make it fun and interesting.
Derek J actually inspired my hairpiece for the Glam Slam. He is on top of the shoe game and is always rocking some hot pumps. I love shoes as well and so do most women I know, so I figured this would be a fun hairpiece to create that lots of women could relate to. A sick pair of stilettos is required to complete any fashionable wardrobe. Usually the fiercest shoes are the most painful to wear. It would be wonderful if someone could invent the most amazing 6” pumps that actually feel like you’re walking on clouds when you wear them. This is what I wanted to capture in my piece.

I was ecstatic when I was named a Hair-Do! I knew I was taking a risk by creating a black and white pump for a hairpiece. I know it was completely outside of the box. The challenge was to take a look from the runway to the real way. It may be a stretch but I can totally see women wearing blinged out high heel headbands. If you see anybody rocking one…remember you saw it here first!
J9’s piece was awesome and her performance was original. I was happy for her when she won the Glam Slam. It’s always sad to see someone go home. But it’s a competition and someone must go. Dimples’ work is neat, well executed and creative. I’m still on those lips from last week. They were perfect! Good luck Dimples I know we’ll be seeing more of you.
