Beyonce, Rihanna, And Other Celebs Team Up For PSA On Systemic Racism
"23 Ways You Could Be Killed If You Are Black in America" is beyond powerful.
Beyonce, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, and other celebs have teamed up to make a hugely powerful statement. Mic.com gathered big names to film a video called "23 Ways You Could Be Killed If You Are Black in America," a PSA that sheds light on the rise of violence against black Americans.
Alicia Keys begins the video with "Failing to signal a lane change," a statement that refers to Sandra Bland, who died in police custody after she was pulled over for a minor traffic violation. One by one, celebs like Janelle Monae and Jennifer Hudson list the various innocuous actions that turned deadly for black Americans like Trayvon Martin ("Wearing a hoodie"), Oscar Grant ("Riding a commuter train"), and Eric Garner ("Selling cigarettes outside of a convenience store").
The video was filmed in support of the We Are Here movement, and following the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, it's a particularly powerful statement. Watch the PSA below.
