Celeb Jobs Before They Were Famous: From Flipping Burgers To Soft-Core Porn

Not all celebrities can list “famous person” on their resume as their only job. Some paid their dues in other ways before hitting it big. With certain celebs, those “other ways” are a little surprising. Soft-core porn set designing, anyone? Now that they are rich and famous, we don’t hear much about how they started out so we thought it might be fun to reminisce about a few celebrities who had surprising jobs before becoming famous.

Ashton Kutcher

Before becoming incredibly famous, Ashton worked at a General Mills cereal plant and occasionally sold his own blood. Such humble (and definitely odd) beginnings!

Jon Hamm

Don Draper had a very shady history so it’s only fitting that Jon Hamm had a somewhat scandalous job before he was famous. Jon worked briefly as a set designer on a soft-core pornography film. We’re sure Don would’ve approved.

Kanye West

Bet you never knew that Kanye worked at The Gap before becoming the Kanye we all know now. He even admits to stealing from the store in the lyrics to his song “Spaceship.” Maybe he should go pay for the items now that he can well afford it.

Eva Mendes

Before having a baby with Ryan Gosling and making women everywhere green with envy, Eva held down jobs that few others would have wanted. She worked at a few fast food restaurants and also at a hot dog stand. We would guess that she’s much happier with her situation now as A-List actress and Mother of Ryan Gosling’s Baby.

Jennifer Aniston

Rachel Green had many a work flub on Friends but it sounds like nothing compared to Jennifer Aniston’s big fail as a telemarketer. She was supposed to be selling timeshares and says she didn’t sell a single one. It seems to have worked out in her favor, so sometimes, quitters DO win.

Amy Adams

Amy Adams is now an Oscar-winning actress but got her start as a hostess at Hooter’s. If she had to wear the tiny orange shorts, we bet they looked adorable with her red hair. She only worked there for three weeks, just long enough to buy herself a car!

Tom Cruise

Now arguably the most famous actor of our time, Tom Cruise didn’t always aspire to be famous. He started off attending seminary school and intended to become a Catholic priest, which is also at odds with his affiliation with the Church of Scientology.

Michael Fassbender

While going on auditions, Michael worked a variety of jobs including postal delivery. He must have been pretty much the hottest postman of all time.

Rachel McAdams

Before becoming Regina George, Rachel had a summer job working at McDonald’s. It’s not exactly glamorous, but she held it down for three summers. What a responsible future famous person.

Patrick Dempsey

Perhaps the most whimsical pre-fame job on this list, Patrick Dempsey was once a highly skilled juggler. We would’ve loved to have seen Dr. McDreamy perform that feat in the operating room (RIP, McDreamy).
