Could Laura Jane Grace Be The First Transgender Star Wars Character?


We speculated about the possibility of an openly queer character in an upcoming Star Wars movie just last week, but already it seems like the tides are changing on this issue. Although we weren't too confident about fan theories pertaining to Poe Dameron (played by Oscar Isaac) and his romantic inclinations, it looks like the galaxy far far away could be getting a new, and rather punk rock, queen.

After sharing a picture of herself fooling around in a Kylo Ren mask, transgender rock legend Laura Jane Grace (best known as the lead singer of the iconic band Against Me!) inspired a twitter campaign to get her into the world of Wars:

Grace later joked about including a voice-changing effect on her next album over Twitter, but fans started getting even more serious about including her in the next film when the official Star Wars twitter account took notice:

Now, fans have adopted the #TrueTransForceRebel hashtag in order to petition to get Grace in the next movie. Could the Star Wars creators be listening? Only time will tell. But either way, Laura Jane will still be geeking out:
