According to TMZ, none of these three artists feel that the Grammys are a priority in their careers. According to their sources, Bieber, who has 4 nominations, doesn't think the Grammys are "relevant or representative, especially when it comes to young singers," so he won't be there. Meanwhile, Drake, who has 8 nominations, will be on tour in Europe and has no plans to attend the awards show. Kanye, who also has 8 noms, will reportedly be MIA as well, and that may be because he's always lost when competing in a category with white artists.
Kanye has already gone on record as saying that he won't attend the Grammys if Frank Ocean isn't nominated, but Ocean opted not to even submit his latest album for consideration.
In an interview with The New York Times last year, Ocean said about the Grammys, "It just doesn't seem to be representing very well for people who come from where I come from and hold down what I hold down."
"I think the infrastructure of the awarding system and the nomination system and screening system is dated," he added. "I'd rather this be my Colin Kaepernick moment for the Grammys than sit there in the audience."
According to TMZ, there are many younger singers who feel the Grammys are "out of touch" and "irrelevant," so who knows how many artists will actually show up this year.
