Things are getting messy in the beauty blogging world. As you probably already know by now, Kim Kardashian recently launched her own makeup line, KKW Beauty. In honor of the occasion, Kim threw a launch party at her home last week and invited a ton of well-known beauty bloggers, including Jeffree Star, Patrick Starr, and Jackie Aina.
Aina later posted a review of Kim's new contouring sticks on her Youtube channel, pointing out the highs and lows of the product, and now fans think that Aina's honest review lead to Kim purposely throwing shade at Aina on social media.
Here's what went down: Kim posted a ton of pics from her launch party on Instagram, thanking everyone for coming and tagging everyone featured in the photos. Where does the shade come in? Well, she didn't tag Aina, even though she posted a pic with her.
Aina's fanbase picked up on the subtle AF shade immediately, and wasted no time in taking Kim to task for basically punishing a vlogger for giving their honest review about her products.
Page Six reports that Aina later discussed the controversy during an Instagram Live session, saying, "I just gave some really constructive feedback about the product itself. I didn't glorify the product in my review, but I also didn't bash it. Kim puts up a picture on Instagram of everyone who came to the launch, literally everybody who came to the launch — well, almost everyone — and tagged everyone but me."
Yikes, right? She put it best though when she asked fans, "Is it shadier to not put up a picture at all, or to put the picture up and to not tag the one person?"
Kim later addressed the controversy on Twitter, explaining that it wasn't her intention not to tag Aina.
"I would never post someone's pic on my page and then intentionally not tag them," she explained. "When I uploaded the album I was tagging everyone that came to the party and for some reason it wouldn't let me tag Jackie's name. I figured I would just try again later, but then I realized you can't add tags after the album is posted!"
"I hung out with @jackieaina in my home and she was super sweet!!" she continued. "I love that she has an opinion and I'll take what she said and use it to better my products."
Aina then responded to Kim's tweets, thanking her for speaking out about the issue.
"So when this happened I was confused. It wasn't about being recognized, it felt like I was being shaded for a less than perfect review and I know that's not just how it looked to me, it's how it looked to everyone else. I didn't notice the photo tag until you all told me," she explained. "I don't know @KimKardashian personally, so while she was super sweet tbh it's hard NOT to assume the worst of people in this industry. But anywho thank you @KimKardashian for clearing that up, having me into your home and welcoming my honesty and feedback."
So what do you think? Are you still convinced that Kim was throwing shade, or do you think it really was just an honest mistake? You can check out Aina's full response below.
