Despite his crazy mess up at last year’s Miss Universe, Steve Harvey was invited back this year to host the pageant again. That’s almost as insane as the fact that we’re still having a Miss Universe pageant as the universe seems to be bent on destruction! But by all means, let’s judge women based on their looks. Lord knows, all these ladies worked really hard to get there, and for some of them, it’s a lifelong dream to stand on that stage and hope Steve Harvey gets their name right.
In 2016, Harvey accidentally crowned Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, Miss Universe. He realized he'd read the card wrong live on TV, and she was dethroned and replaced by Maxine Medina, Miss Philippines. This year, he had to confront his mistake again when he met this year's Miss Colombia, Andrea Tovar. Tovar was actually one of the top 13 finalists this year, and in her interview with Harvey, USA Today reports that he questioned her about the Colombian people’s feelings about him, saying, “I wanna just ask this for myself, how do people in Colombia feel about Steve Harvey?"
She replied, "You want the truth?"
To which Harvey said, “No, just lie to me.”
“A lot of people hate you," she responded, to a laughing crowd, then quickly added, "But I love you!"
Hey, a lot of people hate Steve Harvey here too, what a coincidence!
Harvey, of course, also had to talk to Medina, who was there to pass on her crown. When Medina took the stage, before greeting her, Harvey exclaimed, “Oh god, I can't believe this is happening again, this is crazy.”
Believe it. It kinda seems like you might have this gig again next year, too.
