If you’ve been following Selena Gomez lately, you probably haven’t been seeing much of her. Gomez stopped posting to Instagram in August and announced that she would be taking a break from social media and touring to work on her health. Gomez has lupus, an autoimmune disease that can be quite exhausting and painful. Some people also thought she might be taking a break to avoid any more dust-ups with her ex, Justin Bieber, online. They tended to get into some messy public back-and-forths. Since Bieber deleted his Instagram entirely and is still ranting about it being the Devil, that’s a reasonable assumption.
In an interview with Thrive Global, Selena Gomez gave some tips on how to get healthy and happy in this wild world. In doing so she revealed a pretty shocking fact about her social media hiatus. When asked if she sleeps with her phone, Gomez says, “I recently took 90 days off. During that time I did not have my cellphone. It was the most refreshing, calming, rejuvenating feeling. Now I rarely pick up my phone, and only limited people have access to me.”
90 days without your phone! I can barely go 90 seconds. Of course, I don’t have a bunch of personal assistants managing my appointments for me, but Gomez probably had that even before she locked her phone up. That’s kind of inspiring. And if you want to know what inspires Gomez, she offered this quote:
“You are not what happened to you, you are what you chose to become after what happened to you.”
Like someone who actually looks up from the screen.
