The Judge Who Threw Out Kesha's Case Has Close Ties To Sony
When will Kesha catch a break? Geesh.
Kesha has been through a lot. She appears to be recovering from her drawn out litigation with her producer Dr. Luke, who she accused of sexually assaulting her. Kesha’s attempts to break her contact with Dr. Luke’s label and Sony has mostly been a game of back and forth, with the ultimate outcome forcing the continuation of a relationship between Kesha and the man she says abused and manipulated her throughout her career. She is, however, luckily producing music with someone else on the label, producer Zedd, so Dr. Luke isn’t in the actual room. But that’s the best thing that can be said about it.
Now a piece of news is implying that throughout her trial there’s been a conflict of interest which no one seemed aware of. Page Six reports that New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich, who tossed out her case in April, is married to lawyer Ed Kornreich. Kornreich is a partner at Proskauer Rose, which is a firm that represents Sony/RCA.
It’s possible that this is something of a reach, but it’s also hard to imagine that it never came up at home over the dinner table. On the other hand, Sony is a huge company with ties all over the place. It may be hard to find someone who isn’t connected to them.
