Laxmi Saa's life was changed forever when she was just 15 years old. After she rejected the marriage proposal of a 32 year-old man, he returned to throw acid at her, scarring her face and body and leaving her with serious injuries.
Ever since the attack, Laxmi has devoted herself to speaking out against the unregulated sale of acid and soft sentences for perpetrators. Now the head of her own foundation at the age of 26, she's made it her life's mission to speak up for survivors and has played a huge role in getting legislation changed in India. She's also a TV news anchor, and winner of an International Women of Courage award in 2014. She's pretty much got this whole #GirlBoss thing on lock.
Is it any wonder that Indian fashion brand Viva N Diva chose her to serve as the face for their new fashion campaign, "Faces of Courage"? Laxmi's debut marks the first time an acid attack survivor has become the face of a fashion campaign.
"This opportunity to represent an apparel brand was a platform for me to set an example for women like me to be confident and have courage despite their physical appearances," Laxmi told BBC News. "This was also a platform for me to send a clear message to criminals that women will not lose courage even after they are attacked with acid to destroy their physical beauty."
It's official: I love this woman. You can watch the video of her photo shoot below.
