Zendaya Was Denied Her Purchase At A Grocery Store...Because Of Her "Skin Tone"
Zendaya is accusing a store clerk of racism. Here's what happened.
Zendaya is often outspoken about race (remember that time she fired her publicist?). Well, the star isn't letting up on that tongue. Now she says that she was recently profiled in a grocery store because of her "skin tone."
In a Snapchat, according to E!, Zendaya shares that a store clerk at Vons refused to serve her and a friend on a recent shopping trip. She wanted to purchase $400 worth of gift cards but the clerk told her that she couldn’t buy cards for such a large amount. "Okay cool. I'll take a less amount, whatever," Zendaya recounts with her friend after the incident. "The lady that was helping us, I don't think she was a huge fan of our skin tone." The actress says the clerk then threw her wallet.
"Can't make this sh*t up. Can't make this sh*t up," she sighs in the Snapchat. "This is what we deal with."
Luckily things ended on a positive note. After she returned home, Zendaya shouted out the store's manager "for coming out and helping" after her horrible experience. "Got my gift cards!" she said.
Does that mean the clerk was fired? Watch Zendaya's video below:
