A teenage babysitter, as well as her boyfriend and mother (pictured above), were arrested for abandoning an infant at a casino on Monday night.
According to FoxNews, the teen was taking care of a 9-month-old baby. When the mother didn't show up to pick up the baby, the trio left the child on a bench outside Jake’s 58 Hotel & Casino in Long Island.
Initially, the trio called authorities about the baby. When they arrived, it was claimed that the issue was resolved. Forty-four-year-old Dejuana Stewart, as well as her teenage daughter and boyfriend, then went to the casino. Authorities believe that a dispute about payment and pickup ensued and the mother didn't show up.
The caregivers then left the child on a bench. The babysitter's boyfriend told casino staff about the baby. From surveillance video, authorities realized that these were the same individuals they had responded to earlier in the day.
The baby's mother apparently found the 14-year-old girl through babysitting website sittercity.com. She allegedly stated that she was of age.
“The 44-year-old mother, the 14-year-old babysitter and 16-year-old boyfriend were all arrested for endangering the welfare of a child,” Police Chief Cameron said. “The 21-year-old mother of the 9-month-old child was referred to child protective services for an investigation.”
All three have posted bail after being arrested. Child protective services is also investigating the babysitter’s family. The baby was not harmed.
