Indiana authorities are investigating a serial rapist who may be connected to a murder.

According to ABC 7, a 15-year-old who was arrested last week in Hammond in connection to two rapes may have also killed a young mother.

"Depraved young man," Mayor McDermott said of the teen. "I talked to the officers who arrested him and there was ice blood, there is basically ice water in his veins. Described to me as a sociopath."

The first incident took place on July 26 when the suspect is believed to have threatened a 14-year-old girl with a hammer and sexually assaulted her.

On August 8, the same man was seen on surveillance video (pictured above) allegedly forcing a 25-year-old victim into an alley. He is believed to have threatened her with a hammer and raped her as well.

Indiana State Police Crime Lab confirmed DNA evidence links the same suspect to both rapes. Formal charges are pending, but he was taken into custody on Friday.

Authorities believe the same man killed 25-year-old Lucia Gonzalez. She was stabbed to death while her three young children slept. It was her 6-year-old who found her dead in the kitchen. "Initially, the investigation was leading investigators to believe that it was an isolated incident. However, our investigators continue their investigation around the clock and develop information that the homicide could be related to the rapes," shared Ezekiel Hinojosa, detective captain in charge of investigations, Hammond Police Department.

Authorities did not share what specifically linked the two investigations. The 15-year-old is currently being held at the juvenile detention facility in Crown Point. Due to his age, his name and image have not been released. Prosecutors are seeking to charge him as an adult.
