A young couple was killed just one day after their wedding.
According to The Wichita Eagle, 19-year-olds Rebekah Bouma and Austin Wesson were killed in a car crash near Clearwater, Kansas. The pickup they were riding went off a country road on Saturday and struck a tree.
Wesson was pronounced dead at the scene while Bouma died at the hospital on Monday.
“I think her greatest love in life was to serve other people and invest in them,” the bride's mother, Rachel Bouma, said. “Bekah was selfless. She loved to get close to people and help with whatever they needed.”
The two met while on separate Christian mission trips in South Africa in February. They spent much of their courtship on FaceTime, shared the mother.
The newlyweds planned to move to Grand Rapids, Michigan to attend school and go on future mission trips.
“Everybody questions (the marriage) because they’re 19,” said the mother. “But there was no doubt they were meant for each other and how greatly they loved each other," she added. “If you saw them together, you would know. They were such a beautiful couple.”
