A Long Island man allegedly bludgeoned his mother, sister and his sister’s friend to death with a hammer.
Bobby Vanderhall, 34, allegedly entered his mother’s Hempstead home through the basement door in the middle of the night on Saturday, Nassau County police said, according to PEOPLE.
Lynn Vanderhall, 58, her daughter Melissa Vanderhall, 29, and family friend Janel Simpson, 29, were all killed in the attack. Police said the three women were killed by “blunt force trauma,” Newsday reported.
A fourth victim was injured and is in stable condition.
Vanderhall was arraigned on Sunday. He is charged with three counts of second degree murder and one count of attempted murder.
Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick of the Nassau County Homicide bureau, said Vanderhall had been kicked out of his mother’s house, NBC News reports. He was thrown out after he was accused of assaulting and slapping his mother.
“His behavior became more unruly, more violent,” said Fitzpatrick. “His mother had enough.”
Vanderhall was homeless at the time of the attack.
“The doors were secured and he became enraged,” said Fitzpatrick. “He went to the garage, he obtained a large hammer. . . . With this hammer, he broke through the basement door.”
