A 6-year-old boy is recovering from second-degree burns after having boiling water thrown on his head during a water balloon fight with neighborhood kids. Landen Jenkins and his family had just moved to Houston from Bryan, Texas, two weeks ago, according to Houston’s ABC13. While his mother, LaShenna Amos, was happy at first to see her sons playing with their new neighbors, she now wants to know who did this to her son and why.
Things had started out innocently enough, however, when kids ran out of water balloons to throw at each other, they began filling cups with water. According to a neighborhood girl who spoke to ABC13 off camera, a bigger boy approached Landon and asked if he wanted to feel hot water before pouring it on his head. "When my son came in, he was screaming. He was talking about his skin," said his mother. "I was like, 'What happened?'"
The mother then rushed Landen to Texas Children's Hospital, where he was treated for second-degree burns on his forehead. Fortunately, none of the water got in his eyes, however, he must now see a plastic surgeon to treat the bright pink patches on his scalp which the boiling liquid burned away.
When ABC13’s Steve Campion went to house of the boy who allegedly threw the boiling water on Landen, his family said it “knows nothing about this incident.” Amos has said she intends to press charges, and Houston Police said they are investigating the incident as an assault.
