"Affluenza Mom" Might Have Bond Revoked After Alcohol Violation

Will Tonya Couch attempt to flee the country to avoid jail time once again?

Tonya Couch, the mother of Ethan Couch (the criminal teen whose defense lawyers ludcriously and successfully argued that his wealth kept him from understanding that his behaviors had consequences and therefore he should be absolved of guilt), is reported to have “failed to abstain from the possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages,” according to The Star Telegram. Tonya Couch may have her bond revoked as a result of this violation.

Tonya Couch's son had killed four in a drunk driving incident but managed to escape the situation with no jail time due to the absurd(ly successful) affluenza defense. Tonya had famously helped her son escape to Mexico after skipping a probation appointment in 2015. In 2016, she was charged with money laundering and hindering the apprehension of a felon but has been free on bond since.

A motion filed yesterday is asking for Couch to be held under police custody until her trial on October 2nd. State District Judge Wayne Salvant has placed a gag order on the case, meaning that spokespeople for the district attorney's office were not able to comment on the situation.

Couch had been allowed to possess but not consume alcohol, a rule which she reportedly transgressed while working as a bartender, a job approved by the probation office.
