Footage from a Baltimore police officer’s body cam appears to show the officer planting drugs at a crime scene. According to BuzzFeed, officials confirmed the drugs were used to implicate a defendant scheduled to face trial this week. The defendant's charges have since been dropped according to Fox Baltimore.
In the video, the police officer appears to place a bag of pills in a can alongside garbage in an alley. Two other officers were with him. He then walked back out to the street and turned on the body camera. According to Fox Baltimore, the cameras are programmed to record 30 seconds of video prior to activation, but those 30 seconds are without audio. So, his actions were caught on video.
After he activated his camera, the cop returned to the spot where he left the pills, and pulls the drugs from the can. He then shouted, “yo!” and shows his fellow officers what he found.
“We take allegations like this very seriously and that’s why we launched an internal investigation into the accusations," a spokesperson for the Baltimore Police said in a statement. "We are fortunate to have body-worn cameras which provide a perspective of the events as reported.”
