Two brothers have been charged for killing a father in front of his 2-year-old daughter.
According to the New York Daily News, 21-year-old Maurice Roberts and 16-year-old Marvin Roberts were arrested Saturday for shooting Gerard Grandzol of Phildadelphia in a carjacking.
The incident occurred on September 9 in Grandzol's neighborhood. He had just parked his car and as ABC 6 shares, authorities believe that the suspects took the victim's wallet and tried to steal his SUV (while his 2-year-old daughter was inside). The father wouldn't let them and was believed to be protecting his daughter. He was then shot in the head by the younger brother, twice at point-blank range. The two suspects then fled the scene.
The crime and the suspects getaway was caught on surveillance video. "In almost 29 years, it's one of the most disturbing videos I've ever seen," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector James Kelly said of the footage.
Grandzol left behind two daughters, one of whom was an infant, and wife. “He was just the best father to our two girls that you could even imagine,” the victim's wife, Kristin Grandzol, told KYW Newsradio. “He was welcoming to everyone in the neighborhood. Everybody loved him, and he was just the best. Those two gunshots just destroyed my life and my two daughters don’t have a father now."
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the victim's family.
Both brothers have previous criminal records. Authorities said the older Roberts has been arrested about seven times and the two could face murder charges.
