A Kentucky man said he killed his infant son because he was tired. Cody Bates originally told police that his 3-month-old fell off the couch when he was sleeping with him, according to WLKY. But, that story wasn’t consistent with the skull fractures found on the baby. Finally, Bates admitted he was overwhelmed when the boy wouldn’t stop crying.
“I was standing right about the middle of the table. I flung him over and he missed this thing and actually hit the floor right there with his head up,” Bates told police during an interview, according to Fox8.
On the way to the police station, Bates allegedly said that the baby’s death would give him and and the baby’s mother more freedom.
“She’s going to go back to school for nursing and all that. I mean, I hate to say it, but I mean now would probably be a better time now that we just lost our son,” he said, according to Crime Online.
At the police station, detectives told Bates that he was facing a murder charge. Bates broke down in tears and allegedly said, “I’m going to go to jail. I’m going to lose my job. I’m going to lose her. I’m going to lose everything.”
He is behind bars on a $1 million bond.
