An Indiana mother is facing seven felony charges after she was caught on camera injecting her own feces into the medical IV drip of her 15-year-old son, who was undergoing treatment for Leukemia. 41-year-old Tiffany Alberts told investigators she deliberately poisoned her son so that he would seem sicker to doctors at the Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis and be moved to another floor at the facility, where she thought he would receive “better treatment.” Now her son’s life is in grave danger from his multiple bouts of septic shock, which caused a delay in his actual cancer treatments.
The unnamed teen began treatment for his leukemia over the summer, and was sent home in September, following a round of chemotherapy. However, he soon returned after he began vomiting and suffering from a high fever and diarrhea. Tests showed traces of human stool in his blood, which the staff could not explain. An investigation was begun, and through video surveillance, the staff saw Alberts inject an unknown substance into her son’s IV. When confronted, the mother eventually confessed that it was her son’s own feces that she was injecting directly into his bloodstream, which she kept in a bag.
Doctors say the boy is lucky he didn’t die from the septic poisoning and that his health improved once his mother was removed from his room. However, they also fear they may have missed a critical window in his cancer treatment, and the disease could still claim his life. Tiffany Alberts has been charged with six counts of aggravated battery and one count of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury.
