Former Intercept reporter Juan Thompson made headlines last year after it was discovered that he had made up sources and quotes numerous times throughout his career. Now, Thompson is back in the news after getting arrested for making threats against Jewish community centers and stalking an ex-girlfriend.
He's also notably tweeted about his rocky relationship:
Turns out Thompson doth protest too much, and has since been arrested for implications in both of the situations he had been objecting to.
Criminal complaints now suggest that police believe Thompson to have harassed his former beau by making threats against certain semitic organizations, including eight to the JCC and the Anti-Defamation League, with some of the statements being made in her name. While Thompson is not thought to be the originator of many of the threats that have been in the news lately, his crimes certainly seem to be (at the very least) a kind of copy-cat. Legal documents have characterized Thompson's behavior as a “sustained campaign to harass and intimidate.”
Furthermore, the complaint suggests that Thompson's tactics may have begun as early as July of last year and continued up until this month. Along with instigating ethnic hatred, Thompson seems to have been threatening to leak nude photos of his ex and stands accused of e-mailing her co-workers and suggesting that she has STDs.
Here's Thompson's former employer on the situation:
This situation is still developing.
