A funeral director in Pennsylvania allegedly showed photos of corpses of her friends to “gross them out.”
Angeliegha Stewart, 27, has been charged with abuse of a corpse, among other charges.
Sources told police that Stewart was "flaunting photographs of the deceased to her friends and family," WNEP reports.
Police obtained a search warrant of the funeral director’s home and cell phone. According to Inside Edition, detectives then found photographs confirming the accusations.
Stewart was arrested on Friday and police said she admitting to taking the photos and using them as a way "to gross people out." She also called it a prank. Stewart, who is the funeral director at Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home in Stroudsburg, is also accused of selling marijuana to make extra money. Stewart’s nickname is “Angel,” according to WNEP.
The funeral home put out a statement regarding the case: "We were disappointed to learn of the allegations and we are taking them very seriously. As this is an ongoing investigation, we are fully cooperating with authorities and are not able to comment further at this time.”
Police are working to identify the bodies in the pictures. As for the photos, people in the community are outraged.
“That's not a joke, that's pretty serious, that's kind of disturbing to me,” said Bill Frazetta, owner of Frazetta’s Halloween Headquarters, a nearby business. “You know I can't see how anybody could think like that.”
Stewart has been arraigned and freed on her own recognizance.
