Storm, a golden retriever owned by Long Island resident Mark Freeley, made a daring rescue while on a walk. According to the Huffington Post, Storm managed to pull a drowning baby deer to safety.
“Storm just plunged into the water and started swimming out to the fawn, grabbed it by the neck, and started swimming to shore,” Freeley told CBS News.
Video of the deer's extraction from the treacherous waters went viral on Facebook, garnering over 70,000 shares.
As can be seen in the video, the deer was not moving much after Storm pulled it to safety. Freeley called a local animal rescue group, but when they attempted to check on the deer, it ran back into the water.
Team members were able to once again rescue the deer. The deer was then taken to receive medical attention. It is expected to make a full recovery and be re-released into the wild.
“I think we could all learn something from Storm,” rescuer Kutzing told Port Jefferson Patch this week. “If we just learn to treat each other nicely and look out for each other, despite our differences, the world would be a better place.”
Storm was rewarded for his bravery with lots of treats:
