Husband Allegedly Tried To Hide Wife’s Murder By Posing As Her On Facebook

Impersonating his wife, he said that she had dropped her phone in the toilet, so she couldn't take any phone calls.

A Florida man allegedly strangled his wife to death and then posted as her on Facebook to convince friends and family that she was still alive, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

“I can't believe I dropped my phone in the toilet. I'm such an idiot. Message me here, til I can get it fixed,” George McShane, 42, posted to his wife’s Facebook page on Jan. 7. He continued to message her friends and family on Facebook under the guise of Kristen.

Friends and family told police that they had been worried about Kristen McShane after she stopped answering calls and texts. One relative said that he was worried Kristen was dead and that George was going to kill himself.

"It just wasn't like her to not answer calls. We're a tight-knit family and we're always gabbing. I just can't believe this really happened. It's heartbreaking," said her cousin Peter Mattias Ivester to the Sentinel

On Jan. 10 police found George in an SUV in his garage, with the exhaust pipe running, which they said was a suicide attempt. Kristen’s body was upstairs in the couple’s bed, covered with a comforter.

George then confessed to police that he choked Kristen while they were having an argument on Jan. 7, according to a police report quoted in People

Kristen McShane leaves behind two young children, one of whom has cystic fibrosis. George, who is their father, was charged with second degree murder and domestic battery by strangulation. He is being held without bail.
