Cheyenne Summer Stuckey, of Fort Worth, originally told investigators that she had left her unsupervised with the water running “for only a couple of minutes” before finding her daughter, Zayla Hernandez, face down in the tub on June 13.
Emergency medical responders tried to revive Zayla but she was unresponsive. She was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
When authorities investigated the case, they discovered that Stuckey had been on Facebook messenger for at least 18 minutes while Zayla was unattended.
Stuckey told authorities that she was distracted by another child and Facebook messenger while the TV was turned on loudly.
Stuckey then remembered her daughter in the tub but did not know how to resuscitate her, police claimed.
She was charged with injury to a child on Wednesday. Her other children have been put in foster care.
